For years I naturally thought the Lord would answer my prayers and make me happy by giving me what I needed. Not quite right!
In Psalm 37:4 the Bible says,
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
The Bible is telling me to first be happy and then God will give me what I want – not the other way around.
The opposite sounds natural but, He may not want to reward me for being miserable. It can make me more miserable.
The big truth I learned is that God is always good, and that fact alone can make me delighted. Getting my heart’s desire is just a bonus.
So, first be happy for what God is and for who Jesus is, and then you’ll get what your heart says you want or need. Also, when you delight yourself in the Lord, He puts the people in your life that you need when you need them.
Ponder on the goodness and greatness of God and rejoice in this awesome fact every day. The rest will take care of itself.
